By the way, the AMS has a new publication, Explaining Extreme Events of 2016 from a Climate Perspective available. They did one like this for 2014, and this is the 2016 edition.

Dr Jennifer Francis once talked about how what’s going on in the Arctic could be behind Boston’s deep freeze, and why the Arctic matters.
